Save me, OpenId!

I hope OpenId becomes very widely used; I type my password into way too many websites as it is. I can see why this decentralized approach is better than the Liberty Alliance, but I don't really understand how OpenId differs from or is better than the XMPP authentication that sprung out of Jabber. Perhaps YADIS makes the difference unimportant.
